Happy Holidays: Give the Gift of Joe

Ribbons, candles, bows and edible traditions. Whether you’re making your menorah shine bright this Hanukkah or trimming your Christmas tree with nostalgic ornaments, December is upon us which means the warm celebration of the holidays is quickly approaching. Here at Mosquito Joe, we value our relationship with each and every one of our customers and appreciate the business that continues year after year.

If you’re looking for a last-minute gift and want to share the satisfaction of mosquito, flea and tick treatments, give your family and friends a Mosquito Joe Gift Certificate. They make perfect stocking stuffers and are great for that hard-to-buy-for person on your list. If it’s the golfer who has every club and tee, the gardener with an arsenal of tools or the busy mom with 3 kids and a dog, a Mosquito Joe gift certificate is the perfect way to give the gift of outdoor fun to anyone on your list who just like us, prefers the great outdoors. And if they don’t love being outside, we can only imagine it is because they’ve never experienced a mosquito-free yard. Be the one to give it to them!

Looking for something that benefits you, too? Our Share the MoJo Referral Program is the best way to give your friends an itch-free yard while getting an account credit for your own future treatment.

Shop Small MoJo Style

At Mosquito Joe, we have a lot to be thankful for this Thursday. This season we had 170 territories operating in 27 states which means we made more families mosquito free this year than we ever have. That satisfaction in itself is setting us up for the best Thanksgiving yet. We also made Inc. 5000’s list of Fastest Growing Private Companies in America and Franchise Business Review’s Top Franchises for Veterans list, which we are incredibly proud of. Even though the temperatures have dropped here in Virginia Beach and the holidays are right around the corner, our office is still buzzing with meetings, trainings and new franchisees.  But, we also realized this week that we should probably start shopping for those family members of ours. Eek!

ShopSmallWe know that the much anticipated “Black Friday” is coming up, but did you know that the day after is Shop Small Saturday? Not only is it the perfect opportunity to avoid the craziness at the mall, but it’s a great way to support your community. Because all of our Mosquito Joe mosquito control businesses are locally owned and operated, we like to consider this the Shop Small MoJo style day, too. You don’t even have to leave your couch to participate! Give your local Mosquito Joe a call (or email) and tell them you need a gift certificate for all the homeowners on your list. It really is the gift that will keep on giving, right into the Spring of 2017 when they’re enjoying their mosquito free yard. They also make great stocking stuffers.

Shop Small Saturday is a wonderful day for many reasons beyond the fact that you get to buy presents for your family and friends. A day designated to small businesses helps them overcome the lack of large-scale advertising that larger corporations have at their disposal. Supporting these businesses also keeps money circulating throughout your community, supporting perpetual growth. Not to mention that boosting the sales of small businesses is really important seeing as they account for 54% of all U.S. sales. Our economy largely depends on their success!

We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with lots of good food, family and no mosquitoes. As the MoJo family grows, we’re so excited to see all the amazing things our new franchisees are going to do in their communities. So while we’re talking about things that make us excited, we owe you a big thanks, too. Our customers and franchisees are what make this company thrive and more importantly, what make it great. Enjoy your weekend, and make sure you support local businesses in your area. And don’t forget to add Mosquito Joe gift certificates to that shopping list!

Mother’s Day Then and Now

The History of Mother’s Day

A day to celebrate our dear mothers has been around quite some time, all the way back to the ancient Greeks and Romans who held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele. In the United Kingdom and parts of Europe, the celebration fell on the fourth Sunday in Lent and was originally a time when religious folk would return to their “mother church” for a special service. Over time this tradition evolved into something more secular and what we know today. Anna Jarvis had originally conceived of Mother’s Day as a day of personal celebration between mothers and families and her version involved moms wearing a white carnation and visiting one’s mother.

At times Mother’s Day has also been a date for launching political causes. In 1968 Coretta Scott King, wife of Martin Luther King Jr., used Mother’s Day to host a march in support of underprivileged women and children. In the 1970s women’s groups also used the holiday as a time to highlight the need for equal rights and access to childcare.

While today’s traditions still may include visiting your mom or a church service, we asked moms and daughters around the corporate office if their family held any special Mother’s Day traditions. We thought we would share those with you in case perhaps you need some fresh ideas, or there’s a new mom in your life! And of course, if you need a gift idea for the mom who has everything, give her the gift of a mosquito free yard! Your local Mosquito Joe has gift certificates that would go great in a bouquet of flowers!

From all of us at Mosquito Joe, Happy Mother’s Day!

MoJo Mother’s Day Traditions

“My favorite tradition is that a group of my girlfriends and I always take our moms to brunch on Sunday morning. It’s so fun to have a girls morning and celebrate our favorite leading lady.” – Meghan

“I think the thing I look forward to most on Mother’s Day is waking up to my sweet son’s little feet bringing me artwork he made at school with a giant smile. He’s always so proud! The rest of the day usually consists of mimosas, being outside and enjoying the warmer temperatures – so it’s a good thing I work for a mosquito control company!” – Julie

“My siblings and I like to take our mother golfing on Mother’s Day.  Personally, I’m a terrible golfer so I am there for comic relief, but the rest of them take it pretty seriously so it’s a great thing we can all enjoy doing together.  There’s nothing better then spending a couple of hours outdoors, with your mom on a beautiful May day.” – Jodi

“I go to my husband’s “old man” soccer game and then we head over to my son’s house to hang out by the pool. We always grill shrimp and make margaritas!” – Sharon

If you are a Mosquito Joe customer, you already know how glorious enjoying your yard without the annoyance of mosquitoes is, and we’re thrilled to be a part of that. But did you know that if you’re hanging out with someone this weekend who isn’t a customer, we’ve got a way you can help them and yourself?  You may not know about our awesome referral program that can earn you credit toward future mosquito control treatments.

Refer a friend and when they sign up for a service, they get $25 off their first treatment and you get $25 in credit toward future services. Pretty sweet deal for both of you, huh? Want more MoJo? Refer another friend and that’s another $25 each.  You can refer up to 20 friends which could give you $500 in credits! What are you waiting for?

You can save yourself and your friends a lot of bucks…and even more bites.

Giving Thanks MoJo Style

As the countdown to Thanksgiving draws to a close, what’s on most of our minds is grocery lists, travel plans and getting the house cleaned for company. I know that’s how it is in my house. But as the turkey comes out of the oven, the sweet potato casserole is on the table and everyone is finally relaxed and laughing on Thursday, we’ll be giving thanks for a wonderful season.

As the countdown to Thanksgiving draws

Here at Mosquito Joe if we reflect back, we certainly have a lot to be thankful for. We have locations in 22 states which means a bigger Mosquito Joe family, more happy customers enjoying their yards and a growing corporate team.  As the MoJo family grows, we’re so excited to see all the amazing things our new franchisees are going to do in their communities. All of this is going to make for a pretty wonderful holiday this year. That and pumpkin pie, of course.

So while we’re giving thanks, we thank you. Our customers and franchisees are what make this company thrive and more importantly, what make it great. From our family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving. We hope it is full of family, warm memories, and lots of yummy food.
